116 State Street was built in 1891 as the fourth home office of the National Life Insurance Company. This mechanical system renovation involved installation of a complete fresh air supply system, conversion of the existing heating system from steam radiation to hot water with controls, and upgrade to the fire alarm system, in the fully occupied 4 1/2 story Historic State Office Building. A difficult project that involved creating penetrations through 16” thick brick walls for 12” round ductwork and working around and coordinating with the Dept. of Agriculture on a daily basis.
